How to Respond to a 1-Star Review About a Technician No-Show (Plumber)
A customer took time off work, waited four hours, and nobody came. That's the angriest a review can get before profanity — and the most readable one for your next hundred customers. Here's the response that defuses it.
The review
"Scheduled a 12–4 window for a leak under my sink. Tech never showed, and nobody called. I took the afternoon off work for nothing. Find someone who actually shows up." — 1 star
Copy-paste template
You took the afternoon off and we wasted it — that's not okay, and I'm sorry, [Name]. We had a dispatch mix-up that day and failed to call you, which is worse than running late. I'd like to put you first in line on a day that suits you, no trip charge. This is Dave, the owner — (555) 123-4567, call or text me directly.
Why this works
- It says the quiet part out loud. "You took the afternoon off and we wasted it" proves you actually read the review. Generic apologies prove you didn't.
- It names the failure precisely. "Dispatch mix-up and failed to call" is specific and believable. Vague excuses ("unforeseen circumstances") read as corporate.
- It makes a concrete offer. Priority booking plus waived trip charge costs you almost nothing and shows the next reader you fix mistakes.
- Text-me-directly fits plumbing. Homeowners with an active leak want speed; offering text as well as a call matches the emergency mindset.
What not to do
- Don't blame the tech by name. "Our tech Carlos had a family emergency" throws your own people under the bus in public. Own it as the business.
- Don't promise "it will never happen again." Readers don't believe it, and it sets a bar you'll trip over.
- Don't ask them to call the office line. They already tried the office line. Give them a person.
