How to Respond to a Review About a Drain Clogging Again

This is an illustrative review scenario, not an actual customer review. Adapt the reply to the facts of your situation and replace the example names and phone numbers before posting.

A kitchen drain flows when the plumber leaves and backs up again after a few meals. Customers may assume drain clearing means the underlying problem is gone for good. A useful reply respects that expectation while opening a review of what was cleared, what was observed, and what follow-up is appropriate.

The review

Paid to have the kitchen drain snaked Friday. By Sunday the sink was backing up again with ordinary washing up. The office immediately asked whether we'd poured grease down it. I wanted someone to check the drain, not blame us before coming back. — 1 star

Copy-paste template

A sink backing up again within two days is frustrating, and a question about grease should not leave you feeling blamed. I'd like to review what was cleared on Friday and any findings the plumber recorded, then discuss how to assess the return blockage. Please call (555) 123-4567 and ask for Amira, the owner, so we can work through the next step privately.

Why this works

  • It addresses the blame as well as the blockage. The office's first question became part of the complaint. Recognizing that exchange makes the invitation to call more credible.
  • It separates clearing from determining cause. The response does not claim that roots, grease, or a damaged line must explain the recurrence. It starts with the service findings.
  • It gives the callback context. Friday's clearing record is the starting point. The customer is not simply being sold another identical visit in the public reply.

What not to do

  • Don't accuse the household of misuse. Ask relevant intake questions privately and without presenting an assumption as a finding.
  • Don't recommend chemicals in the review thread. You do not know the drain condition or what products may already have been used.
  • Don't guarantee the drain will never clog again. Promises about lasting results need an actual assessment and a defined scope.

Frequently asked questions

Should I explain the limits of drain snaking online?

Do not lead with a technical disclaimer. Acknowledge the repeat backup and offer to review what the service found, then discuss limitations and options directly.

Can I ask about grease or what went down the drain?

Ask needed intake questions in a private service conversation. In a public reply, avoid phrasing that assumes the customer caused the problem.

Does a repeat clog automatically mean the first service was wrong?

Do not decide that from a review. Compare the first visit's findings with an appropriate assessment of the recurring problem before discussing scope or coverage.
